Kudzanai Chiurai on exhibition in Germany

A solo exhibition of work by Kudzanai Chiurai is on at the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa) in Stuttgart (1 February – 23 March). The exhibition, Chiurai’s first at the institution, features two recent works by the artist. The first, Genesis [Je n’isi isi], is a photographic series in which Chiurai re-enacts scenes from David Livingstone’s explorations, replacing stereotypical European characters with African protagonists. Similarly _We Live in Silence, a film by Chiurai exhibited alongside the photographs, draws on images from contemporary cinema and art, combining these with anthropological archive material in order to create scenes that project an alternative vision of history.
