Broomberg & Chanarin on the 13th edition of the Cairo Biennale

Broomberg and Chanarin will produce a new body of work for the 2019 Cairo Biennale, taking the Egyyptian capital’s iconic taxis as inspiration (10 June – 10 August). Using 40 taxi windows of various shapes that recall the curved canvases of the German painter Blinky Palermo, Cairo’s ubiquitous yellow taxis become a framing device for looking at the city – both from a cinematic and private perspective. The installation suggests a narrative of privacy and mystery that speaks to the biennale theme of looking east.
