Chilean-born artist Alfredo Jaar has been a significant presence in South Africa for over a decade, achieving local recognition alongside his international acclaim. His latest exhibition, ‘The Geometry of Solitude’, at Goodman Gallery in Cape Town, showcases his powerful approach to photography and the representation of humanitarian crises. Known for his work on the Rwandan genocide and global refugee issues, Jaar’s practice blends art and activism. He invokes Marxist Antonio Gramsci, whose activism and intellectual rabble-rousing culminated in prison.
