When Carson Ting was asked to be one of the artists creating a commissioned piece for the 2026 World Cup, he knew he was getting to be a part of something special. “I was completely over the moon,” he says. “When I first told my mom, she was bawling on the phone.” Ting, who is from Canada, was selected alongside American artist Hank Willis Thomas and Minerva GM, an artist from Mexico, to collaborate on the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Tournament Poster. Each represented one of the three host countries.

“I’m very much interested in things that capture our attention, and I don’t think anything captures more people’s attention at one time than the World Cup,” says Thomas, a conceptual artist who works with photography. As part of the Art Production Fund’s Art in Focus program, a series of quilts created by Thomas is currently on display at Rockefeller Center. “I’m fascinated by the way in which sports and athletes embody some of our greatest ambitions and courage and ability and capacity and how that plays out on the global stage.”
