How should artists confront the afterlives of traumatic personal, social and political histories? This question is at the centre of Ravelle Pillay’s ‘Revisitations’, a solo exhibition of 11 oil on canvas paintings displayed across two rooms. Emerging after her father’s sudden death in 2025, the works draw on multiple references, including photographs from family archives as well as the UK’s National Archives.

Near the entrance, viewers are met with 2 (all works 2026), in which a figure wearing a ceremonial mask looks out from a coral-pink backdrop, holding up a card emblazoned with the titular number. Nearby, a dismembered leg casts a long shadow that recedes towards three figures in silhouette. Pillay, who is of South African Indian and British ancestry, addresses colonial histories and apartheid-era segregation across her work; though the painting’s subject and setting remain deliberately unknown, the number may relate to such systems of institutionalized violence and inequality.
