Goodman Gallery returns to FNB Art Joburg with a wide-ranging presence across the fair and its broader programme.

4–6 September 2026
Sandton Convention Centre
Stand HUB#3

Alongside its main HUB booth and a dedicated Working Title presentation, gallery artists feature in the fair’s large-scale MAX section, a special Zeitz MOCAA presentation and The BMW Art Generation Vol. IV at The BMW Art Haus. Together, these presentations bring established and emerging voices into dialogue, spanning new work and significant earlier pieces while reflecting the breadth of Goodman Gallery’s programme and its longstanding engagement with Johannesburg’s cultural landscape.

A dedicated section of Goodman Gallery’s booth marks the next chapter of Working Title, reimagined by curator Nandi Jakuja as a long-term, evolving platform for artist development. The presentation brings together Banele Khoza, Unathi Mkonto and Guy Simpson from the previous iteration with newly announced artists Nyakallo Maleke and Tinyiko Makwakwa. Since its 2025 relaunch, Working Title artists have presented solo exhibitions across Goodman’s spaces, participated in international fairs and developed relationships with curators, institutions and collectors. At Art Joburg, highlights include new paintings by Khoza and wall-based installations by Mkonto.

A dedicated secondary market presentation within Goodman Gallery’s booth brings together significant works spanning several generations, including pieces by Dumile Feni, Sam Nhlengethwa, Marlene Dumas and Lisa Brice. Dating from the 1980s to the early 2000s, the selection offers a historical counterpoint to the contemporary works presented across the booth, while highlighting Goodman Advisory and its work supporting collectors and institutions across research, sourcing, acquisition and long-term collection management and development.

Zeitz MOCAA’s presentation at FNB Art Joburg centres on the practice of Nolan Oswald Dennis and marks the launch of the artist’s first monograph, ECLIPTICS published by Swiss Institute, Zeitz MOCAA and Walther König on the occasion of UNDERSTUDIES – Dennis’s first museum exhibition in South Africa – and overturns at Swiss Institute, their first institutional solo exhibition in the United States. The presentation features Xenolith (Letsema), a collaborative “recipe work” developed for UNDERSTUDIES with members of Zeitz MOCAA’s operational and technical staff. Formed from tightly packed layers of soil, the work extends Dennis’s XENOLITH(s) (2018- ∞) series while unsettling conventional notions of artistic authorship, foregrounding the often unseen labour and collective knowledge that sustain the museum. This collaborative process extends into the fair’s public programme with A Memorial of Earth, Memory and Return: On Collective Work in Museum Practice, featuring Talia Mzamane and Jason Adams, who participated in the making of Xenolith (Letsema), in conversation with Motlhoki, long-time studio collaborator of Dennis, and moderated by Khanyi Mawhayi. The talk takes place on Saturday 5 September from 13:15–14:00.
